Staying Cool.
What a whirlwind this week has been. Little by little but at an increasingly alarming rate our lives are changing. We are having to think through choices that have ramifications far beyond our usual circles of concern. The world is in limbo. Speculation is tenuous two weeks out, much less 6 or 12 months. This is stressful, unrelenting, and can bring with it a tremendous amount of fear. The honest truth is that we want to be an encouraging and hopeful voice, but we would only be repeating what we have heard, and doing it much more poorly. We are fabricators, what do we know about calming the masses in times of crisis. But what we can do is spread the good stuff we have found in hopes of it helping you too. After all that's kind of what we do anyway. So below you will find some links that speak some sanity and wisdom into our lives in a time that we need it.
This first link was really helpful for me personally. It is a great balance of explaining (in terms that I can understand) how stress affects our nervous system and how we actually have influence over its effect. It is written written for faith based workers over seas, but the science and recommendations are solid.
This is a wonderful and hopeful poem by Irene Vella. Translated and posted by Mark Aink.
I appreciated this article by Interrupt Branding about business leadership through this time and observations on human behavior. - interruptdelivers.com
This may sound extreme, but I’ve played around a bit with cold showers and believe there are some benefits to be had. But there is no reason for you to take my word for it, I’m just a guy behind a keyboard. So here is the expert link: wimhofmethod.com
And finally, this is just a interesting feel-good story: The boss who put everyone on 70K
This feed is a bit out of the norm for us. John Dunaway is a captain of a cargo ship sharing bits of his travels from a very thoughtful and rich point of view. Something a bit different from the “digital vagabonds” sharing their seemingly idyllic vacation lives. Be sure to read his captions, that is where the gold is. - @abstractconformity
